The Critical Questions:
  • How can I identify and recruit qualified board members?
  • What if my board doesn't understand their roles and responsibilities?
  • How can I get board members more engaged in my organization?
  • What elements and activities should be part of a board orientation?
  • How can I develop effective communication between board, management, and staff?
The Clarus Approach:
  • Engagement of a governing or advisory board requires a thorough understanding of the organization and the thoughts and opinions of its members. Our comprehensive interview process elicits both concrete information and underlying currents which may influence board operations and/or effectiveness.
  • The relationships between board and management are defining indicators of an effective organization. We work with both entities to assure an alignment of goals, objectives and systems.
  • Many boards operate and interact with external stakeholders as a part of their board function. Engagement of external stakeholders is a regular part of our assessment process, resulting in more informed organizational supporters.
  • We have senior staff members who have served as Directors for both nonprofit and for-profit organizations, members of corporate management teams, business owners and Executive Directors of successful nonprofits.
Our Proven Experience in Board Development:
  • Worked with CEO of a major corporation regarding board development. Identified and recruited community board members and developed a comprehensive board orientation program.
  • Helped develop organizational structure, goals and objectives for new board of a large healthcare organization. Identified and recruited individuals for the board's initial membership.
  • Worked with large state agency to recruit board members; assisted with gaining approval for board members from appointing authorities.
  • Worked with board of nonprofit organization to build consensus around key messages and strengthen communication with external stakeholders.
  • Provided board orientation for numerous organizations including governmental entities, nonprofit organizations, state agencies and commissions and corporate governing boards.
I knew we'd chosen the right firm when I called the Clarus office at 6:30pm on Friday with a request for immediate assistance with a PR issue.
